The Giantscaleplanes.com Staudacher GS300 is a high performance sport scale model that is highly aerobatic and is not recommended for inexperienced R/C pilots. It is recommended that all construction steps in this manual be completed before the model is covered. This should include engine mounting, radio equipment installation, and control linkage setup. Building the model this way minimize the amount of finishing work (and possible hanger rash) to be done after the model is covered. Only high quality adhesives should be used in construction to insure that you will have a model that will be strong and last for many flights. It is recommended that Hinge Points or flat hinges with metal pin be used on this model. (DO NOT USE CA TYPE HINGES)

Install hinges in aileron and wing T.E. Do not glue at this time. Use 5 hinges on each aileron.
Drill hole in center of aileron horn mounting dowel and install 6-32 x 2" flat head screw control horn with washer and 6-32 nylon insert bolt add 1/8 horn bracket.
Install Aileron servo in wing and run servo extension through wing to the root of the wing.

Make up aileron pushrod.
Glue wing antirotation dowl (W1) in place in root rib and allow ¾ " of dowel to protrude out of the wing root.
Final sand and set aside until the rest of the plane is ready for the covering stage.

Use Spring clamps to hold wing tube doublers (F8) in position on the inside of motor box and glue in place. Note: There are four wing tube doublers they go on the inside and outside of the displayed motor box frame. |

Block up rear of fuselage so that the top of the fuselage sides are level Use and incidence meter and adjust wing panels, set at 0 degrees. Be sure that top of the fuselage sides are level. Glue in the antirotation pin doublers (F6). Be careful not to get any glue on the wing antirotation dowel. Using the wing bolt for alignment, install the wing retaining bolt doubler (F7) |

Engine Installation
Engine thrust line is located 2 " below top edge of motor box.
Motor box has built in 1.5-degree right thrust offset. Engine must be mounted on the left side of firewall for proper spinner/cowl fit. To find engine location: Mark a centerline down the top of the engine box, use a straight edge to extend centerline to forward of firewall. Position engine so that prop shaft lines up with straight edge. Mark engine mounting points and drill holes for motor mount.
Install cowl
Glue (9) small cowl mounting blocks (F2) to top and sides of former F-1 use scrap balsa to fill in area between blocks. Trial fit cowl and trim rear edge to final fit to spinner. Trimming the cowl will be based on the engine dimensions cut so the spinner will have proper clearance.
Rear servo installation
Glue (4) ¼ x 2" 1/8 ply servo mount doubler (F5) on the both sides of rear servo mounting holes. Install servo ( 4 ) high quality servos.

Install top hatch
Install 6-32 blind nuts in hatch mounting blocks (F4)
Drill hole for 6-32 x ½ " bolt and countebore hole so that bolt head will sit flush with fuse sides. Secure mounting blocks to fuse with bolts. Put hatch in place on top of fuse and use spring clamps to secure hatch to blocks. Drill 1/8 " hole through hatch side into mounting tab and install 1/8 " dowel

Build battery box and cover
In order to achieve proper C.G. location it is possible that you will have to place your battery pack in a rearward location. If this is the case build a platform ahead of the servos in the tail of the plane. Use scraps provided by builder of lite-ply and stiffen with hard balsa

Install tank platform
-The Tank should be mounted in the front of the wing tube on a platform fabricated by the builder out of pieces (F3) and (F3A).
-Use I-hooks with rubber bands to securely fasten the tank to the newly constructed platform

Wheel Pants Assembly
Use the following:
2 - Axles (Either provided by the builder or in the hardware purchased with the kit.)
2 - Lock nuts provided with the Axles
2 - Lite-ply wood provided with the kit
2 - Fiberglass wheel pants provided with the kit
4 - Wheel collars provided by the builder
-This is the suggested method of installing the wheels and wheel pants with the hardware in the optional hardware pack. Epoxy the lite-ply wood provided with the kit into the fiberglass wheel pants making a left and a right. After the Epoxy has cured drill a hole to allowing the threaded section of the axle to fit through. Place the wheels and wheel collars on the axle. Now attach the axle assembly and wheel pant to the landing gear and adjust the wheel collars for proper clearance.
Final assembly
· Cover fuse and tail
· Install stab in fuse and glue in place
· Install fin in Fuse and glue in place
· Glue in hinges
· Finished CG should be 1.75 to 2.00 inches in front of wing tube former. These values will vary with the size and weight of your motor.
